Now that life is (hopefully) starting to settle down for you after the holidays, it’s a good time to reflect on the past year and start dreaming and planning about what you want in the new year.

We’re not really into resolutions – more often than not they end up making you feel worse because, well, you’re only human and eventually the militant diet or gym schedule or hyper-productive work days will burn you out.

So this year, instead of making resolutions, give yourself 20 solid minutes to really focus on yourself and answer the following questions to close out 2013 and start creating 2014.

These questions are meant to help you think clearly, become intentional, and give yourself space to look for the answers, so don’t worry about answering the questions “perfectly” — just write whatever comes to mind. Think about what you really want in your life right now (especially how you want to FEEL) and what limitations you’re currently dealing with. Most importantly, think about how willing you are to make changes in your life.

And….go!

Closing 2013

1. What accomplishment, action, or decision were you most proud of in 2013?

2. What one word best sums up your 2013 experience?

3. What was the greatest lesson you learned in 2013?

4. Who were the three people that had the greatest impact on your life in 2013?

5. What was the biggest risk you took in 2013?

6. What was the biggest surprise for you in 2013?

7. Overall, how did you change in 2013?

Creating 2014

1. What would you like to be your biggest triumph in 2014?

2. What major indulgence are you willing to experience in 2014?

3. What would you most like to change about yourself in 2014?

4. What are you looking forward to learning in 2014?

5. What do you think your biggest risk will be in 2014?

6. What brings you the most joy and how are you going to do or have more of that in 2014?

7. What one word would you like to have as your theme word in 2014?

Give yourself some uninterrupted time to devote to answering these questions, and actually write down the answers. That way, you can look back at these questions throughout the year when you feel like you’re sliding off track.

We’d love to hear what you chose as your “theme word” for 2014, so let us know in the comments below!

Much Love,

Kristen & Rachel
