How many times have you been a bit of a know-it-all, either unintentionally or … purposefully? (It’s OK if you have; we’ve been insufferable know-it-alls a few too many times in our lives to judge anyone else.)
Sometimes the best thing that can happen to you, when you think you know everything, is a solid dose of humility. Consider this week’s #ClarityGem your shot of humble-juice …
[hr style=”1″ /]
THIS WEEK, WE WANT YOU TO KNOW:
APPLY IT TO YOUR OWN LIFE:
We can’t tell you how many times we’ve bemoaned the conditions of our lives … “Nothing is working out!” “We’ll never make any money doing this.” “No one is going to want to date us; we’re too weird.”
When something isn’t happening or working out the way you want it to, it’s so easy to become a know-it-all. You start pointing to the lack of what you want as solid evidence that it’s never going to happen:
“Well no one has asked me out in forever, so obviously I’m un-dateable.” “No one has praised me for my work, so clearly I suck.” “Money isn’t flowing in, so we must have a terrible business idea.”
In our twisted desire to be right about something, we start to feel a little self-righteous about our “evidence” of things not working out … “I’m right! I told you so! Even though I hate how right I am, at least I’m right.”
Except … you’re totally wrong. You so do not know everything.
And what’s more, when you assume that your lack of evidence is proof that life isn’t working out for you, you’re sort of dissing the Universe.
No, really. Who do you think you are to insult … the Universe? Infinite intelligence? The Mystery of Life itself? Whatever you want to call it, I can assure you that you (as smart and gifted as you are) are not the end-all-be-all of knowledge about life and how it’s going to play out.
Do you really think that just because you, in your modest humanity, can’t figure out how things are going to work out … that means they won’t work out? People, please. You aren’t all that.
Why not rest assured that you do not, in fact, know everything and that there are opportunities, solutions, and synchronicities bound to unfold that you couldn’t even conceive of in your wildest dreams?
Because we’ve got to tell you … it’s way more fun to be a know-nothing who leaves room for mystery than a know-it-all who leaves room for nothing.
Absence of proof is not proof of absence. #ClarityGems

WHAT #CLARITYGEMS ARE ALL ABOUT:
Sometimes it’s just better to avoid long blog posts and cut straight to the point!
Think of #ClarityGems as your weekly shake of the good ‘ole Magic 8 Ball … you never know what might bubble up and how it might be exactly what you need to hear today.
And instead of just a beautiful, inspirational, and shareable image (which is a nice start), we’re giving you some quick thoughts about how to interpret it … because inspiration without action is pretty, but kind of anti-climatic.
Tweet it, share it on Instagram, or forward it along to someone who needs to hear it today … and tag us (@ClarityonFire) to let us know how this Gem is inspiring you!
Much Love,
Kristen + Rachel
Thank you girls for the inspiration everyday. I admire you for reaching out to the world and letting us know that it’s going to be okay. I recently just cut my hours at my day job so that I could pursue my career as a yoga instructor. I am taking a pay cut and it isn’t sitting with me well for the fear of not making as much money as I possibly can. But I cut my hours so that I could breathe. So I could spend more time with the people I love and doing things I love instead of being worn out everyday. I know my goals, talents and what drives me and I am very well on my way. But taking this paycut makes me feel unproductive I guess and your gem today gave me encouragement to exhale and just be present and be happy with the choices I have made. Keep doing what you’re doing your cause is amazing and very much needed in this society. Much love and good energy !!! Amanda 🙂
Thanks, Amanda! And I admire YOU for making the decision to create space in your life so that freedom, connection, inspiration, and wellbeing can flow in. It’s a decision that plenty of people won’t understand and will question (and you may even question it some days, too!), but it’s very clearly the right decision for you right now. I’m so glad today’s Clarity Gem is giving you permission to trust yourself and your decisions! It’s OK to value freedom more than money — most people do, but are too afraid to prioritize their lives accordingly.
Hi Kristen and Rachel,
I just wanted to tell you both how much I love your clarity gems! I’m at a bit of a crossroads in my career right now and your words of wisdom have been very inspiring and motivating. Today’s blog post (absence of proof is not proof of absence) reminded me of a quote that I keep in my job portfolio – this is where I keep my resumes/job descriptions/etc. and I’ve taken it with me on every interview…
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people will not feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It is not just in some of us; it is in everyone and as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give others permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” – Marianne Williamson
Thank you for shining your light and inspiring others to follow ours.
Natalie
Natalie, this is one of my favorite Marianne Williamson quotes ever! I’m glad you posted it today because it perfectly ties in with this Clarity Gem. Good luck with the job search! I’m certain a job that’s WAY better suited to you is on the way, and you’ll know it when you see it.
