One of my (hello, Rachel here!) favorite minor, almost forgettable little moments from the Harry Potter books (don’t act like the rest of you Millennials aren’t HP fans) is when everyone finds out that Hagrid is half-giant, and he shuts himself in his cabin because he’s so ashamed.
Dumbledore, being the best and wisest wizard ever, basically tells him, “If you’re waiting to come out of here until the criticism stops, you’ll be in here a long time.” And while I didn’t exactly turn that into this week’s #ClarityGem, it’s very close to what I mean …

THIS WEEK, WE WANT YOU TO KNOW:
APPLY IT TO YOUR OWN LIFE:
It doesn’t matter if 99 people praise us, love us, and can’t get enough of who we are and what we do. If just one person chastises us, misunderstands us, or outright dislikes us … we’ll focus on them and practically forget about all of the good stuff.
Being human is weird. Things happen that shape who you are and what you think you know. And every once in a while, you’ll encounter someone whose experiences and opinions have been shaped (or maybe twisted) very differently than yours. And sometimes, they’ll make that difference known by criticizing you or misunderstanding you completely.
It literally has nothing to do with you. In fact, other people’s opinions of you are really just interesting information about how they see the world. That’s why it’s so important to …
So, how will you tune down the haters and amp up the people who love you?
TELL US HOW YOU TOOK ACTION:
Use #ClarityGems on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook to share how you’re applying this week’s Gem to your own life, and to see how other people are being inspired.
WHAT #CLARITYGEMS ARE ALL ABOUT:
Sometimes it’s just better to avoid long blog posts and cut straight to the point!
Think of #ClarityGems as your weekly shake of the good ‘ole Magic 8 Ball … you never know what might bubble up, and how it might be exactly what you need to hear today.
And instead of just a beautiful, inspirational, and shareable image (which is a nice start), we’re giving you some quick thoughts about how to apply it to your life … because inspiration without action is pretty, but kind of anti-climatic.
Tweet it, share it on Instagram, or forward it along to someone who needs to hear it today … and tag us (@ClarityonFire) to let us know how this Gem applies to you!
