Being coaches and huge lovers of the written word means that we spend a lot of time reading. We could say it was because we’re researching the best books and guides in the industry so that our clients get the most out of their work with us … but that would only be a partial truth. We’re just bookworms, period.
These are some of the books/guides we’ve most enjoyed reading this past year. Throw ’em on your shopping list for your family and friends, or grab a few for yourself. They’ll make for fun, meaningful, and enlightening gifts this holiday season.
The Desire Map is one of the most amazing, revolutionary texts we’ve ever read. Danielle LaPorte, goddess of all things soulful, created a way of setting and achieving goals that actually works … all based on the philosophy that you need to be pursuing how you want to feel about life first and foremost. Your feelings (powerful, sexy, fun, joyful, radiant, whatever you want) become your internal compass that guides everything you do … and life is never the same. The best part is that Danielle just launched the new Desire Map collection, which means all of her products can be bought a la carte. On top of the original Desire Map book, there are audios and journals and day planners for all of your mapping. You’re going to love it.
Money, A Love Story is so great, we’ve blogged about it before. Everyone, and we do mean everyone, has some sort of energy around money. It’s unavoidable in this world, which makes this book that much more important. If you’re going to deal with something on a daily basis, you should make sure your emotional energy around it is working for you, not against you. This is the only book about finances that is 100% committed to targeting your emotional and mental relationship with money. Kate Northrup will help you get clear on your habits, understand what might be keeping you stuck with “not enough,” and help you write a new “love story” between you and your money. It’s fun, light, and incredibly powerful, while also remaining practical and doable. Totally amazing!
E-Squared is the book about manifesting that you thought only existed in your dreams. You’ve probably heard of The Secret or read about the power of manifesting from other self-help gurus. For those of you who always wanted to figure out how the whole “Law of Attraction” thing works, but couldn’t quite grasp the concept, this book is your new best friend. Pam Grout created nine do-it-yourself manifesting experiments that prove your thoughts do, in fact, create your reality. She’s witty, down-to-Earth, and fun … and this stuff actually works. We both had complete success with the very first experiment (we’re still in the midst of doing the others!), with virtually no experience. All it requires is an open mind and a little faith. Seriously, it’s completely easy, and anyone can do it!
Mind Over Medicine: Scientific Proof that You Can Heal Yourself is exactly what it sounds like. In fact, we don’t think we can explain it any better than she does: “We’ve been led to believe that when we get sick, it’s our genetics. Or it’s just bad luck — and doctors alone hold the keys to optimal health. For years, Lissa Rankin, M.D., believed the same. But when her own health started to suffer, and she turned to Western medical treatments, she found that they not only failed to help; they made her worse. So she decided to take matters into her own hands. Through her research, Dr. Rankin discovered that the health care she had been taught to practice was missing something crucial: a recognition of the body’s innate ability to self-repair and an appreciation for how we can control these self-healing mechanisms with the power of the mind. In an attempt to better understand this phenomenon, she explored peer-reviewed medical literature and found evidence that the medical establishment had been proving that the body can heal itself for over 50 years.” This book is the ultimate in proving that you, and your body, have the ultimate control over your health.
Have you already ready any of these? Are you planning on grabbing any for the people on your holiday list? Here’s to giving the gift of wisdom this holiday season.
Much love,
Kristen & Rachel
