Soldiers, first responders, surgeons, firefighters (and those crazy people who walk across skyscrapers on a tightrope) … these are courageous people.
They — the brave ones — make it hard for us (the more normal ones) to feel comfortable calling ourselves “courageous” or “brave.” That’s why we were really intrigued by what the definition of “courage” used to be …
THIS WEEK, WE WANT YOU TO KNOW:
APPLY IT TO YOUR OWN LIFE:
In one of its earliest and most literal forms, “courage” meant “to speak one’s mind by telling one’s heart.”
That’s it.
Courage doesn’t have to be about being physically daring, or taking sweat-inducing risks, or being a hero — although those things are undoubtedly courageous.
To tell the truth, plain and simple, is a huge act of bravery. It’s one of the most vulnerable, uncomfortable, fearful things we can do … because it puts us directly in the path of being rejected, misunderstood, or disliked.
Some of the scariest things we’ve both done have been about speaking up. Like …
- Walking into the boss’ office to quit.
- Knowing you’re about to break someone’s heart, but ending the relationship anyway because it’s not right.
- Telling family and friends that you don’t share their beliefs about something important to them.
- Offering yourself up to someone — your love, your support, your presence — and having no idea what they’ll do next.
It’s supremely uncomfortable … but on the flip side, it’s supremely rewarding.
Because you can’t get to the good stuff — fulfillment, love, happiness, connection — if you’re not living (and telling) the truth of how you feel.
So, do you have what it takes to be this definition of courageous? Are you speaking up, even when it’s uncomfortable? Are you “telling your heart” to people who matter? What do you need to do today that’s courageous?

ARE YOU HANGING OUT WITH US NEXT WEEK?
In case you missed the announcement on Monday, we’re having a {free!} live online hangout on Tuesday, April 19th at 12pm Eastern.
We’ve been hearing a lot from people about how finding their passion feels hard, overwhelming, and full of pressure.
So, we’re going to de-mystify the whole “finding your passion” thing and make things easier for you. You’re definitely gong to want to be there. We’re sharing:
- The 3 or 4 big pieces you need to know about finding your passion,
- How to take the pressure and confusion out of the process,
- How to make this feel like less of a “big deal,” and more like fun,
- … as well as plenty of personal and client stories.
If you know for certain you can’t be there live, that’s cool. Just RSVP anyway. You will get a replay emailed to you … but you’ll only have 3 days to tune in before it’s gone.
RSVP here, and you’ll get a confirmation email letting you know you’re in.
See you there!
Much Love,
Kristen + Rachel
