Do you remember those “choose your own ending” storybooks you used to read as a kid? Well, consider this a “choose your own ending” #ClarityGem … there are two ways you can interpret this, and both are true.

THIS WEEK, WE WANT YOU TO KNOW:

what you can do

APPLY IT TO YOUR OWN LIFE:

Option A

This one’s the classic interpretation, and you’ve heard it before:

What you don’t invest time, energy, and thought into is never going to change or grow.

You’re always limited by what you refuse to do, investigate, or shift. And if you do what you’ve always done, you’ll get what you’ve always gotten.

So … don’t give up. Keep moving. Push yourself a little. Don’t settle. Make change happen.

Option B

Or… a more rebellious interpretation:

Sometimes, doing nothing is what allows you to do something, later.

As in, more is not always better. Sometimes you need to hit pause, refresh, clock out, and just STOP.

Forcing and pushing and striving, literally or existentially, is a recipe for burnout and frustration. Often the most evolved solution — and the one that has the most profound impact on your energy, creativity, and ability — is to do WAY less.

So … give up. Stop moving. Don’t push yourself. Settle down. Allow change to come to you.

They’re both right, at different times. Which one is better for you right now?

WHAT #CLARITYGEMS ARE ALL ABOUT:

Sometimes it’s just better to avoid long blog posts and cut straight to the point!

Think of #ClarityGems as your weekly shake of the good ‘ole Magic 8 Ball … you never know what might bubble up and how it might be exactly what you need to hear today.

And instead of just a beautiful, inspirational, and shareable image (which is a nice start), we’re giving you some quick thoughts about how to interpret it … because inspiration without action is pretty, but kind of anti-climatic.

Tweet it, share it on Instagram, or forward it along to someone who needs to hear it today … and tag us (@ClarityonFire) to let us know how this Gem is inspiring you!

Much Love,

Rachel + Kristen

  1. Hello Clarityonfire,

I was having a conversation with my brother yesterday about what you Do or Don’t do. I was worried about putting myself out there and trying something new. He felt that i was limiting myself. I’m always afraid of changes or trying something out of my comfort zone and the truth is that it will stop you from learning more about yourself and what you’re capable of. I feel that you may not see what not doing is doing to you today, but as the weeks, months and years go by you’ll start to see it.
    Thank you again clarityonfire.

  2. I’d go with #2 right now. I’m burnout-notorious in everything, because I have such an active personality. Yesterday I literally just lay in bed staring at a photo of a lighthouse by a sunset for an hour because of how worn out I was by everything I was doing.

Course, right after that I ran 5 miles and lifted weights for half an hour. I guess that tells the whole story of your Clarity Gem, though, right? Because I decided what I couldn’t do for an hour (keep working) I ended up returning to work with excitement later.

These posts have been kind of psychic for me lately. You all are talking about aspects of life that I’m going through pretty regularly. That’s cool, because I feel like by posting these comments I can have a little more discourse about what I’m going through than I would otherwise.
